To protect themselves from the rigors of the climate, Kashmir goats have two coats: a superficial one, formed by coarse hairs, and one closer to the body, composed of a short, thin and very warm fluff, called duvet.

In spring, the shepherds cut the outer hair first with scissors and then collect the finest part with special combs with long teeth.

The fibers of the two mantles of the goat are then separated, because only the duvet constitutes the cashmere proper.

Inner Mongolia Cashmere was developed in 1986 using the winning batches of wool from the Ermenegildo Zegna Cashmere Trophy competition. The accolade was reserved for the village and the community that produced the best cashmere of the year. This Trophy system was suspended after a few editions
